  • Gateshead: culture, sport and tourism beacon case study

    In February 2001, Gateshead Metropolitan Borough Council was awarded Beacon Council status in Round Two of the scheme under the regenerating through culture, sport & tourism theme. The award was made by ministers on the recommendation of an independent advisory panel consisting of nominees from a number of private and voluntary sector bodies as well as the LGA.
